Daniel LeRoy Kenan was teaching school in Gadsden County, Florida, and studying law. After his father's death, he and his four young sisters moved to Texas to join his oldest sister and brother who were living in Graham. He read law at Seymour and became Baylor County Clerk from 1887-1895. He ran for Baylor County Attorney and was elected to serve from 1887-1895 while serving as County Clerk.

D.L. Kenan came out to this area from Florida, the family home of the Kenan family. In 1884, he was made a Mason at the Seymour lodge.

Daniel LeRoy Kenan married Mary Laure Farthing on 11 January 1887 at Seymour, Texas. Three children were born to this union: Verda, Martha, and Wilder Kenan.

He practiced law for the rest of this life. He was a prominent attorney.

Judge Daniel L. Kenan's health failed him several years ago, he moved to Alpine, Texas in May 1920 but his condition was such that the climate could not offer him any lasting benefit. The Judge was highly respected in Seymour and a Christian gentleman.
