Robert A. Casteel

Robert A. Casteel, 92, of Athens, died Wednesday, Oct. 5, 2011, at Athens Regional Medical Center.

A native of McMinn County, he was a son of the late Larkin and Rossie Casteel. He was a member of First Christian Church of Englewood, where he was baptized on April 24, 1949, and was a 50-year member of Englewood Manila Masonic Lodge No. 633.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Virginia Lee "Johnnie" Gates Casteel; his second wife, Gladys Raper Watson Casteel; two brothers, Charles Leonard "Link" Casteel and J.M. Casteel; two sisters, Zella Mae "Curly" Patton and Ruth Burger; and one brother-in-law, R.L. Hill.

Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Robert Larry and Carolyn Casteel of Englewood; two stepdaughters and one spouse, Bobbie and Ray Lingerfelt and Judy Galyon, all of Athens; one stepson and his spouse, Billy and Frances Watson of Athens; three grandsons, Robert "Robby" Casteel, Stacy Casteel and Tim Casteel; five step-grandsons, Michael Watson, Scott Lingerfelt, Dewayne Galyon, Billy Watson and Robby Watson; six granddaughters, Teressa Lingerfelt, Sherry Masticola, Tammy Watson, Shannon Watson, Jamie Watson and Robin Smith; two brothers and one sister-in-law, Kenneth Casteel of Englewood, and Sherman and Catherine Casteel of Madisonville; and four sisters and three brothers-in-law, Sara "Tinker" and Wayne Martin and Marie Bridges, all of Englewood, Alice and Lewis Partain of Athens, and Vivian and Paul McConnell of Cleveland; one sister-in-law, Evelyn Hill of Englewood; and several nieces and nephews.

A Masonic service will be 7 p.m. Friday with funeral services to follow in the South Chapel of Bordwine Funeral Home with the Rev. Lynn King officiating. Burial will be 9 a.m. Saturday in McMinn Memory Gardens with grandsons serving as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Bordwine Funeral Home of Etowah is in charge of arrangements.
