Robert John "Arkie" Freeman, 75, of Harrisburg passed away Friday, Jan. 18, 2008, surrounded by his family at Boone Hospital Center after a long and courageous struggle with emphysema.
Services, conducted by the Rev. John Gilman and Deacon Bobby Carey (also Mr. Freeman's nephew) will be at 1 p.m. Monday, Jan. 21, at Harrisburg Christian Church. Visitation will be one hour before the funeral service at the church.
Mr. Freeman was born in Arkansas on Aug. 20, 1932, to Jessie and Bessie Freeman. He was married to Anna Wadkins on June 9, 1954, and she survives. She also was born in Arkansas. He was retired from the University of Missouri.
He is survived by two daughters, Rena and husband Allen Winn, and Lora and husband Raymond Crites; one son, Stan and wife Cheryl Freeman; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, all of Harrisburg. Another grandson is due in May. Other survivors include his sister, Ruby Shipman of Texas; three brothers, Buel and J.D. of Arkansas and Earl of Oklahoma; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Jeannie; his parents; and younger sister Lucille Branscum.
