HARDIN CO. INDEPENDENT - 13Oct1921 - CHARLES HENRY LAMB DIES - DIABETES ENDS LIFE OF RESPECTED CITIZEN
Charles H. Lamb died at his home here last Tuesday night of a complication of diseases chief of which was diabetes. He had been ill for the past 3 weeks, gradually growing weaker since the first violent attack, & the end was not unexpected. Funeral servieces will be conducted at the home today at 1 o'clock by Rev. J. R. Palmer & interment will be made at the I.O.O.F. Cemetary here.
Mr. Lamb, a son of W. R. & Melissa Lamb, was born 06Mar1860, in the upper part of the Co. where he grew to manhood on the farm & bore the distinction of being a member of one of the largest & most properous families in the Co. After reaching manhood he wooed & won the fair hand of Miss Mary Jane Hall, his present wife, who survives. Not being content with farm life he engaged in the milling industry at which he worked for over 30 years & became one of the most proficient millers in the Co. For the past 25 years he has worked for the Ledbetter MIlling Co. here & was one of the most trusted & efficient (can't read) being responsible for the manufacturing department of the mill in its entirety.
Several years ago the deceased professed faith in Christ & united with the Missionary Baptist Church, but on account of his great desire to accumulate a comfortable living for himself & family he neglected his church duties & spent all of his "spare" time from his work in labor & toil that added to home comforts & conveniences. And while his disposition was one of reticence & as far as social life was concerned was one of solitud, yet to know him was to admire him; his friends were numbered by his acquantances.
Mr. Lamb leaves a wife, Mary Jane Lamb, & 3 daughters, Mrs. Audrey Dale & Mrs. Lizzie Palmer, both of this city, & Mrs. Bertie Ledbetter, who is now ill in a hospital in St. Louis, members of his immediate family to mourn his departure. Besides these he leaves 4 brothers, George, John, Willis & James Lamb & 4 sisters, Mrs. T. J. Belt, Mrs. George Finley, Mrs. Charles Oxford & Mrs. Etta Hall & a host of other relatives.
