MERLE BENSON, 55, EX-AREA MAN, DIES
LANESBORO --- Merle Benson, 55, former Lewiston resident and Lanesboro native, died suddenly Sunday evening in Alexandria, about 30 miles from Clarissa where he had lived since 1955.
He was born June 18, 1917, in Lanesboro, Minnesota, to Ronald and Emilie (Jacobson) Benson, died Sunday night, April 22.
Mr. Benson was a partner in the Sorum and Benson Company until 1943, until he moved to Lewiston and operated a feed and produce business until 1955. He moved to Clarissa at that time where he and his son Rollie operated a feed and fertilizer business.
He is survived by his widow, Norma and one son, Rollie, both of Clarissa; a daughter, Mrs. Gary (Wanda) Gerling, of Walla Walla, Washington; four brothers, Raymond and Stanley, both of Lanesboro, Donald of Minneapolis, and Darrell of Lewiston; and one sister, Mrs. Leila Johnson of St. Paul.
