Wayne H. Brown, 97, of Lexington, formerly of Pleasanton, died Monday, Oct. 3, 2011, at Plum Creek Care Center in Lexington. Wayne was born Sept. 20, 1914, in Arapahoe to Bertie and Gladys (Horn) Brown.

On April 23, 1942, he married Phyllis Rankin in McCook. She died in 1992.

Survivors are: sons, Jerry Brown and his wife, Vivian, and Roger Brown, all of Lexington; daughter, Nancy Pace and her husband, George, of Falls City; grandchildren, Timarree Jorgensen and her husband, Jeff, of Cornelius, N.C., Jeremy Brown and his wife, Amy, of Holmen, Wis., Angela Miller and her husband, Ryan, of Anselmo, Alyce Brown of Lincoln, Constance Sorensen of St. Joseph, Mo., and Kenneth Brown of Falls City; great-grandchildren, Davis and Sawyer Jorgensen, Matthew, Jackson and Emma Brown, Cole, Lucas and Alivia Miller and Dominick and James Sorensen; sister, Verna Sandman of Wauneta; sister-in-law, Doris Brown of Elm Creek; and a host of relatives and friends.

Wayne attended country school near Wauneta then did ranch and farm work in the area.

Wayne was a veteran of World War II and served in the U.S. Army Air Corps from 1941 to 1943.

Wayne farmed in the Wauneta area then in 1948 moved to Miller where he farmed and ranched then moved to Pleasanton where he farmed until 1964. He then worked for the Buffalo County Roads Department until he retired in 1979. He moved to Lexington in 2001.

Wayne loved farming and livestock, especially horses. He loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and also his many road trips with his son, Roger.

Wayne was preceded in death by his brother, Wilbur Brown; sisters, Dorothy Ingold, Merideth Tuxhorn-Leavitt and Esther Lovitt-Lippincott.

Burial was in the Pleasanton Cemetery, Pleasanton, NE. with military honors by the National Guard Military Honors Team, Pleasanton American Legion Post 321 and Pleasanton Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9481.
