Katherine Moormeier, 94, of Cortland, passed away peacefully Sunday morning, October 2, 2011, at the Gold Crest Retirement Center in Adams. She was born on January 23, 1917 at rural Cortland to Rudolph and Edith (Albers) Hansel. She married Leslie R. Moormeier on January 31, 1934 at Beatrice and they lived near Hallam, Princeton and Firth before moving to the family farm near Cortland in 1945. She was a member of the Cortland United Church. She enjoyed gardening, embroidering, cross-stitching and quilting.

Survivors include two daughters, Sharon Holsing of Beatrice and Joyce McManus and husband Kenneth of Ocala, Florida; four grandchildren, Linda Watt and husband Malcolm of Omaha, Gary Jurgens and wife Janice of Beatrice, Terry Jurgens and wife Kristen of Odell and Deborah Mays and husband Michael of Cortland; 10 great-grandchildren; 16 great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Bethel Waltke of Beatrice and DeLoris McCown of Moreno Valley, Calif.; numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Leslie, who died on July 24, 1999, beloved daughter Shirley Jurgens, who died February 17, 2010, son-in-law John Jurgens, who died February 13, 2000, friend Lloyd Sexton, who died July 10, 2010, two infant grandchildren Timothy Holsing, who died March 13, 1965 and Lori Holsing, who died June 2, 1970, four sisters and three brothers.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, October 5, 2011, at the Cortland United Church of Cortland with Pastor Casey Karges officiating. Burial will be at the Cortland Cemetery. A family prayer service will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday in the church basement. In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established to the Cortland United Church or Asera Care Hospice. Viewing at the Fox Funeral Home until 9 p.m. Tuesday evening and then one hour preceding the service at the church on Wednesday.
