GILBERT.--On Saturday evening, August 12, 1906 in Philadelphia, the devoted wife of R. H. Gilbert, pastor of First Church, Berwick, passed from suffering to the saints' rest in God. Julie Ann Gilbert, nee Lau, was reared in a Methodist home in Dillsburg, Pennsylvania. Upon entering her fifteenth year she saw the face of the Beloved and was won to Him, in whose servgice she spent her life with a diligence and direction that were beautiful and inspiring. Since December 11, 1883, she shared the labors of her husband, a helpmate indeed to him and a mother to their children. Wednesday afternoon, August 16, in the church she loved so well, the story of her life and triumphant death was held before a mourning people . Of the twenty preachers present and participating in the exercises: Presiding Elder W. W. Evans, S. C. Swallow and W. P. Eveland spoke of her character, work and faith. Berwick Cemetery holds her precious dust.
