Mary Alleman was married to Adam H Caris and mother to his eight children. The family resided mostly in Webster Township, Wood County Ohio. Mary died in Toledo Ohio at the home of her daughter Mabel at 2119 Ontario Street in Lucas County, Toledo Ohio. She was described as very disciplined, and strict when needed but also a learned erzählerin (storyteller) who thrilled her children of tales she spun. She spoke mostly Swiss-German and generations later heard her tales in English with the occasional German word thrown in for emphasis.
