Eunice Koester, 62 of Pierre, died Tuesday, September 27 at her home in Pierre.
Eunice was born September 21, 1949 to Simon and Rose Elrod. She grew up in Murdo graduating from Jones County High School.
Eunice was employed at Georgia Morse Middle School. She was very proud of her job. She enjoyed decorating the 6th grader's Christmas tree and making an ornament for each student.
In 2010 she was awarded the Hilda Fredericksen Memorial Award South Dakota Custodian of the Year. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, gardening and was always busy doing things for others, but especially spending time with her grandkids, family and friends.
She is survived by her children: Dick Koester, Pierre, Matt (Amy) Koester, Pierre and Ronda Hermanson, Piedmont; her mom Rose, Murdo; three brothers: Wally (Carmen) Elrod, Jerry (Julie) Elrod and Billy (Patty) Elrod; four sisters: Barb (Jim) Brecheisen, Susan (Greg) Reida, Joann (Jerry) Tornow and Ella (Randy) Furher and five grandchildren: Kirstie, Ashlyn, Dallas, Brock and Dylan.
She was preceded in death by her husband Doug, infant son John, father Simon, grandparents and mother-in-law Becky Koester.
Visitation will be 5-7 pm Wednesday, September 28 at Isburg Funeral Chapel. Services will be at 10:00 am Thursday, September 29 at Faith Lutheran Church with burial at Riverside Cemetery
