Tragic death on airplane.
Roy, 3 years old, was the beloved Pug of Alessandra. He died while traveling aboard an Alitalia plane. Roy and his companion, a 6 year old Pug, Piper, were on board the plane, while their owner was seated with a traveling companion. Alessandra was moving from Palermo to Rome.
Sadly, Roy never made it to his new home. He died while in flight.
Alitalia, the airplane company, does not admit any wrong doing. Roy's owner Alessandra, disagrees and is going through the court system, to get some answers. She blames the faulty air conditioning system for causing Roy's death. The AC on the plane was not working properly. Even the passengers were in discomfort due to the stifling heat on the plane.

Roy had a clean bill of health when he boarded the plane. A veterinarian certificate states so.

Alessandra, also blames the crew, who did not allow her to care for her beloved Pug. They did nothing, according to witnesses, to care for the dog. When Roy's owner requested to take her dogs out of their carriers, the crew told her she could not. It was only after the other passengers protested, that Alessandra, was allowed to get her older Pug, Piper out of the carrier.

Someone on the crew, suggested bringing the dog she was holding, to the airplane's lavatory. That happened to be the 6 year old Pug, Piper. Alessandra left Roy with her friend, Roy was still in his carrier. The friend did not dare defy the flight attendant's orders, and left Roy in his carrier. The friend did however go tell Alessandra this problem.

Alessandra couldn't do much, she had her hands full trying to refresh Piper. As soon as she was done with Piper, she tried returning to her seat and to Roy, but was prevented from leaving the lavatory. She was told to remain there. It was only when the plane landed, that she was allowed to leave in the lavatory with Piper, and it was only when the plane had landed at the airport in Rome, that she was allowed to go back to her seat and to check on Roy. Back to her seat, it was discovered Roy had died, still imprisoned in the carrier. Roy and Piper, both being Pugs are especially sensitive to heat and that can lead to death, as it did in this case. Due to the Pug's face, breathing in certain situations, such as in high temperatures and non ventilated areas can become a critical health emergency.

Alessandra had no choice, she had to leave Roy behind at the airport. Laws would have prevented her from getting on a taxi with the deceased dog. After a few hours, she was able to get private transport for Roy, he was taken to a veterinary clinic, for a necropsy. The autopsy reveals the cause of death was due to the high heat on the plane.

Roy is described as adorably cute especially during New Year's Eve parties, in which he comically participated.
What was to be a new beginning for Alessandra and her two dogs is now tainted with sadness and the painful realization it should not have happened, The Italian police are investigating at the request of Roy's owner. She wants answers.
The airplane company denies many of the accusations. One thing is clear. Roy died and he shouldn't have.
