Mrs. Fredericke Schlie (nee Schmidt), aged 77 years and 5 months, passed away at her home on Tuesday, September 22, 1936. Her maiden name was Fredericke Schmidt, and she was born May 27, 1859, in Trantow, Province Pommern, Germany, and emigrated to the United States, landing here October 25, 1881, and settling down in Clayton County.
On March 27, 1883, she was united in marriage to William Schlie at Garnavillo by the Rev. Sommerlatte, and this union was blessed with seven children, of whom the following survive: Henry, Louie, Adelia (Mrs. Walter Casten), and Edward. John preceded his mother and father in the year 1928, and two died in infancy. Her husband passed away on September 19, 1928.
Besides the four children above mentioned, she leaves to mourn her passing twenty grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; also one sister, Mrs. Minnie Radloff of Postville, and one brother, Fred Schmidt, of Garnavillo, and a host of other relatives and friends. She was a loving, faithful mother and was beloved by those who call her memory blessed.
The funeral was held from St. Paul's Lutheran church in this city at two o'clock last Thursday afternoon, September 24, 1936, the Rev. Melcher of Clayton Center officiating. Interment was made in the family plot in Postville Cemetery.
