Austin S. Bortner, Jr., of Westminster, died September 30, 2011, in Taneytown, MD, after a brief illness.

Born November 26, 1928, in Carroll County, he was the son of the late Elizabeth S. Tressler Bortner and Austin S. Bortner, Sr.

Before retiring, he worked 34 years at 3M. He served in the U.S. Navy stationed aboard the Aircraft Carrier CVB 42 Roosevelt during World War II and the Korean Conflict.

Mr. Bortner was a life-member of the VFW Molleville Post. No. 467, American Legion Post No. 31, North Carroll Rod and Gun Club, Grace Lutheran Church and attended St. Mary's United Church of Christ.

He enjoyed hunting deer and small game.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years Doris Hughes Bortner; daughter, M. Michele Forry of Littlestown, PA; grandson, Wade Stephan Bortner of Littlestown; great-granddaughters, Morgahn and Gabbrielle.

He was predeceased by son, Stephan A. Bortner; sister, Kathryn Bortner; and brother, Kenneth L. Bortner.

Funeral services will be held at 11 AM, October 5, 2011, at Fletcher Funeral Home, Westminster, MD, with Rev. Dr. Richard Scott officiating. Interment will be in Sandymount Cemetery with military honors.
