Conscripted, he reported for 3 years service on 4/16/1862 at New Market, VA.,; was assigned to Company B, 4th Virginia Infantry, and mustered in 4/30/1862 at Port Republic, VA., as a Private.
Discharged (reason not listed but likely due to majority) on 8/16/1862 at Gordonsville, VA.; paid and given transportation to Staunton, VA.

Enlisted again (date unknown), he was mustered into Company D, 69th Virginia Infantry as a Private.
POW 3/2/1865 in the Battle of Waynesboro, VA.; confined 3/6/1865 Fort Delaware, DE.; Oath Allegiance 6/19/1865 there and released.

The 60th Virginia Infantry Regiment [also called 3rd Regiment, Wise Legion] was organized in August, 1861.
Later in the war it was attached to the Department of Western Virginia and East Tennessee and participated in numerous conflicts including the fight at Piedmont. The 60th took part in Early's operations in the Shenandoah Valley and fought its last battle at Waynesboro, VA. During mid-April, 1865, it disbanded.
