Esther (Myers, Boyd) Faidley died Wednesday, September 5, 2012, at Skiff Medical Center in Newton. The oldest of six children, Esther, was born July 14, 1918 in Monroe County, Iowa to Ivan W. and Florence E. (Butcher) Myers. Esther graduated from Newton High School with the class of 1936 and after teaching rural school in Malaka Township, worked in the Industrial Engineering Department at Maytag in the 1950's and later was the Office Manager for the Jasper County Medical Center where she retired in the early 1980's. Esther married Joe Boyd in 1938. Two sons, Bill and David, were born to this union. In 1980, Esther married Lloyd Faidley. Esther was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Newton where she had served as a Deacon and an Elder. She enjoyed her family, cooking, sewing and crafts, travel, Iowa Hawkeye sports, and the Chicago Cubs. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Marie Drake, Lois Reynolds, Rose Engle, and Myrna Shaffer; her brother, Ivan Max Myers; and her husband, Lloyd Faidley. Survivors include her sons; step-children, David Faidley and Marla Faidley Vanderwerff; 3 grandchildren, Jennifer Denner, Stuart Boyd, and William Charles Boyd, Jr.; 2 step-grandchildren, David J. Faidley and Kristen Faidley; and 4 great-grandchildren. Private family services will be held at the Wallace Family Funeral Home with interment at the Newton Union Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the First Presbyterian Church Foundation may be left at the funeral home.
