Madison Anna Damme, beloved daughter of Doug and Victoria (Pitt-Hart) Damme and sister of Hilarie and Neil Damme, died on January 21, 2007.

Madison was born on October 23, 1995, in Talmage and spent her 11 years joyfully loving life on her family's farm. A beautiful girl with an independent and passionate spirit, she was an inspiration to her family and those around her. Spunky, artistic, joyous, sassy, determined, thoughtful, outgoing, forgiving, generous, illuminating, perceptive and perfectly invincible are the words her family and friends use to describe her.

She had a remarkable intellect and was relentless in her pursuit of learning and achieving her life goals. She was a voracious reader, winning several school reading awards, and dreamed of traveling the world. She loved art, knitting, animals, ballet, music, swimming, horseback riding, Texas Longhorn football and baking apple pies. She was fascinated with Egyptian culture and studied it intensely. Her latest passion was her new Maltese puppy, Belle, which she received for Christmas. But mostly, she loved playing with her brother and sister, cousins and friends in the pastures and barns at the farm.

Madison volunteered for Wildlife Rescue Team of Nebraska, helping nurse injured animals back to health so they could be returned to their habitat. She participated in Sunday school at St. John's United Church of Christ in Talmage. Madison was in the fifth grade at Unadilla Community School where she was a library helper and a band member. This year, she was writing her first novel, titled "The China Doll."

Madison was surrounded by a large and loving family. She is survived by her parents and sister and brother; her paternal grandparents, Alfred and Marlene Damme of Syracuse; maternal grandparents, Barry and Mary Pitt-Hart, Sioux Falls, S.D.; and aunts, uncles and cousins, Don, Kathi (Damme), Rachel, Ashley and Haley Janssen of Lincoln, Mike, Becky (Damme), Larissa and Jared Lechner of Norfolk, Peter, Sian (Pitt-Hart), Hannah and Mallory Young of Spearfish, S.D., Don, Karen (Pitt-Hart), Emily, and Kyle Gale of New Virginia, Iowa, Jim, Angela (Pitt-Hart), Dylan and Nyle Bartling of Unadilla, and Gareth and Kerry Pitt-Hart of Kansas City, Mo. She has many extended family members and friends who will also miss this bright light in their lives.

She died in a sledding accident.
