Claud Dawes came to the west in 1884 and with the exception of a few years in Nebraska and Kansas devoted his interests to business and ranching in Wyoming.
He was married to Clara Hessie March 29, 1899. To this union were born five children. The youngest son, Claud E. Dawes, Jr. preceded his father in death on May 17, 1942. The family moved to Douglas in 1910.
Surviving are his wife, Clara; three sons, Hess of Hayes Center, Neb.; James of Douglas and William of Edgemont, S.D.; a daughter, Mary, of Twin Falls, Idaho; 12 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren; a brother, Pete, of Alliance, Neb.; and a sister, Esther, of Antioch, Neb.
