L L or JL grave stone has long disappeared into the forest floor, if a stone exit it is in very deep forest debris. However, many other Grave markers are still readable and visible. The sunken burial pits, are still obvious, some have broken stones about, others just a depression in the ground, where they were laid to rest. And their are plenty of Grave
Markers in good shape, though storms and time has taken its toll.

L L or J L White is said that he was the oldest son of Elias and Anne B [Gibbs] White.
And recognized by some as establishing the Creed Cemetery, as its first burial...

Have found no records of an LL White, in Bowie County, however, there was a SL that appears to have been misinterpreted, as LL, on maps and poll tax records, this SL was on the 1846,47,48 poll tax, and mentioned in an article in the newspaper Northern Standard in 1849, after this year, he is no longer found, he owned land, just within or below Benjamin R Milam's headright, near the Sulphur River, the land doesn't appear on the Tax List, in the above mentioned years? still investigating. [This raises the possibility that LL could be SL?)

PRE-EMPTION GRANTS:

**This is how his brother Benjamin White got his first land in Bowie Co TX**

There is a possible way to find him, he owned land, many
got their land in Bowie County via the PRE-EMPTION GRANTS,
if ever someone can check on this, we may find him:

"From 1845 to 1854, individuals could claim 320 acres of land from the unappropriated public domain. The amount was reduced to 160 acres in 1854 and the grant program was cancelled in 1856. Preemption grants of 160 acres were re instituted in 1866 and continued until 1898. To qualify for a preemption grant settlers were required to live on the land for three years and make improvements."

=================================================

As the 1830 and 1840 census indicates there was an additional male in the family, as well as two other females, possibly a Sarah and Jerusha White.

He is listed on the Redwater burial list compiled many years ago by a local historian. Who had interviewed relatives in the distant past, and even one lady, who helped maintain the cemetery for some years, and gave information on the head stones she could remember, of which most had been verified, and re verified. My visits to the cemetery, I was not able to find this particular grave stone, however, some have vanished into the forest floor.

J L or L L (John was a common name in this White family, Elias had a older brother John who died young), & a son named John G, so we can probably strike John from the list.

L L died bet. 1847/1849, would have made him one of first burials, thus, establishing the Creed Cemetery. There are many unmarked graves in Creed Cemetery, the stones have
sunken into the forest floor, these plots can only be identified by the Depressions
in the shape of a persons body, which is obvious, in most cases.

This was property his father had owned, and his sister Susan inherited after fathers death, she married Patrick Creed, who the cemetery was named in honor of.

L L grave site was most likely marked with a large common stone from the area, with his initials scratched into the stone. This was the traditiion in Union County SC, for some time, in the early years.

As this man is listed on cemetery listings, and lest we not forget him, I think it wise to post this memorial, and link him to his family.
