Grace married Harry Lee Buchanan on October 27, 1906, in Kansas City, Jackson County, Missouri 6 days before her 15th birthday! She indicated on the marriage license that she was over the age of 18 (Missouri marriage laws at the time required a man be at least 21 and woman over 18 to marry without parental approval).

Grace and her family (parents, sisters, brother) left Missouri for Washington State in late 1906 or early 1907 and she gave birth to a daughter, Josephine Buchanan on July 28, 1907. Harry Buchanan stayed behind in Missouri and later re-married. Grace then married Wade Ray Cowen in Walla Walla, Washington on June 19, 1912. Grace died during the Influenza outbreak of the late 1910's on November 25, 1918 in Walla Walla, after caring for her brother-in-law Meryle Johnson, who had contracted influenza during that outbreak, as well.

Her daughter Josephine was then raised by Grace's parents and Wade Cowen also remarried.
