Father: Samuel Green BELL (1780)
Mother: Jane KIRK (1793 – 1840)

December 6, 1901
JOSEPH BELL , died in residence of his son, S. D. BELL in Civil District 2, November 29, 1901 aged 88 years, 2 months, 23 days. Born 8 miles from Nashville in Davidson Co., Tenn. and at age 11 came to Henderson County and settled on the farm where he died; married MARTHA J. MONTGOMERY and had four children; she died and he married TABITHA MANNING and had four children, two of whom survived him, S .D. BELL and Mrs. J. L. WHITE. A Cumberland Presbyterian at Beech Grove since age 18.

Martha J. Montgomery - married December 28, 1840
Children: Araminda (b. 1841), Newton Jasper (b. 1843), and William F. (b. 1845)

Tabitha A. Manning - married abt. 1853
Children: Paralee, Samuel D., Tennessee C., and Mary Louise

Lynette - after considerable research, I can now say with 100% certainty that his 4th child with his 1st wife Mary Montgomery was Martha J. Bell, born at the time Mary died in Nov. 1848. (Four children are mentioned in Joseph's obituary.)

Joseph gave the baby to his brother, Rev. William Bell and his wife to raise. Martha Bell can be found on various census' with W Bell, and her children are referred to as his nieces and nephews. I was researching Mary Montgomery's family and came across her brother's Will which left money to Martha's children. His will only went to his nieces and nephews. Araminda's children were named also. It was an awesome find!!!

Please add her name to Joseph's site. Unfortunately, I don't know where she is buried.

Thanks so much.
