BRIGHAM CITY - Joe Louis Alex, 54, died May 31, 1995 at St. Patrick's Hospital in Missoula, Montana from complications from pneumonia.

He was born 1940 in Fort Hall, Idaho, a son of Marjorie Alex Pacheco.

He married Meralyn Jensen on August 12, 1963 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.

Joe was a member of the Brigham City LDS 21st Ward.

He had worked at the Intermountain School for 16 1/2 years as an instructional aide. At the time of his death, he was serving as the tribal chairman of the Northwest Band of Shoshone Indians.

He loved life and he let no obstacle get in his way. He loved playing with his grandchildren.

Surviving are his wife, Meralyn of Brigham City; one daughter and one son, Cheryl Renteria and Kevin Louis Alex both of Brigham City, and five grandchildren.

Also surviving are two brothers and one sister, Rois Pacheco of Brigham City; Reed LeDeu of Pocatello, Idaho; Mrs. Kenneth (Elaine) Pebo of Bannock Creek, Idaho.

He was preceded in death by his mother, one brother, one grandson, and his son-in-law.

Funeral services were held June 6, 11 a.m. at the Brigham City 21st Ward Chapel, 865 South 300 West, arrangements by Olsen-Myers Mortuary, Brigham City.

Interment was in the Washakie Cemetery.
