HANNIBAL - Lucille Evelyn Brown, 96, of Hannibal, died at 2:15 a.m. Friday, Dec. 16, 2005, at Beth-Haven Nursing Home.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 20, at Smith Funeral Home & Chapel in Hannibal. Pastor Tom Day will officiate. Burial will be at Grand View Burial Park.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, Dec. 19, at the funeral home.
Mrs. Brown was born Feb. 24, 1909, in Ralls County south of Huntington to Oatis Lee and Lera Watts Gibbons.
She married Archie Brown in Keokuk, Iowa, on April 7, 1928. He preceded her in death Dec. 17, 1982.
Survivors include two sons, Bev Brown and wife, Shirley, of Hannibal and Terry Brown of Rogersville; two daughters, Karla Taylor and husband, Richard, of LaGrange, and Joan Johnson and husband, Gene, of Winter Haven, Fla.; 14 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; several stepgrandchildren and stepgreat-grandchildren; one sister, Alma Powell of South Carolina; and one brother, Wallace Gibbons of Linn.
She was preceded in death by her parents; five sisters, Ruby Todd, Iola Herring, Thelma Tribble, Geraldine Tribble and Marietta Gibbons; and three brothers, Harold Gibbons, Leo Gibbons and Leslie Gibbons.
Mrs. Brown went to Tilden School through eighth grade. She graduated from Hannibal High School and attended Culver-Stockton College. She taught for a year at Brush Creek School south of Huntington.
She later worked at S.S. Kresge in Hannibal for 25 years. She was a 4-H leader for 25 years in Ralls County and had been a member of Oakwood Christian Church since age 13.
Mrs. Brown loved to bake and plan meals. She was known for her excellent rolls. If you were a guest in her home you always had to eat. She loved to sew, knit and crochet, and she could make anything she saw in the store windows.
Gardening and taking care of her flowers was her hobby for the last few years. She also loved to oil paint and draw pictures for herself and her family.
Memorials may be made to the Oakwood Christian Church.
Pallbearers will be Brian Taylor, Troy Taylor, Kent Brown, Mike Johnson, Keith Brown and Phillip Brown.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Joe Essig, Robert Rickert and Marcus Johnson.
