Violet Marie Couch was the third child of Albert Patterson Couch & Elizabeth Blanche Storms (their first child, Floyd, died very young back in Missouri). She was born August 21, 1910 in Seattle. While they were living in Wallula, Violet came down with an illness eventually diagnosed as spinal meningitis in April of 1921 and was taken to St. Mary's Hospital in nearby Walla Walla. My dad, Bill Couch (born 8 years after Violet died), remembers a story of how his dad was sitting with Violet when he was certain of seeing a figure of a man outside her hospital room window just before she passed on (I guess my grandfather thought it was someone from heaven come down to take Violet home)..
We discovered the photo included here a few years after I had begun my "roots quest" and realized it was the only photo known to still exist of Violet and, until that time, my dad had never known what Violet looked like! I thought she looked very much like one or two of some photos of one of my Couch cousin's daughters...
