Private in Captain Amos Emerson's Company in the First New Hampshire Battalion of the Continental Army commanded by Colonel Joseph Cilley. Present at the Battle of Bennington and the Battle of Saratoga (Bemis Heights) where he was badly wounded. Shot L Knee (Entry 1" below knee joint, exit leg 3" below joint), Shot R Thigh (Entry anterior near the femoral artery, exit abt 5" bef articulation of hip joint), Shot R Arm (above the elbow). He was only 17 years old at the time. He went on to father twenty-seven children by three wives and was the first permanent settler of Swan's Island, Maine.
