"María Cecilia Miranda married John Burwood Cooper* at Mission San Francisco de Asís (Dolores) on October 1, 1841 (SFD Marriage 02151). John was born in England in 1791 and arrived in Alta California, México, about 1831. He became a Mexican citizen and enlisted as an artilleryman at the Presidio of San Francisco. He converted to Catholicism and was baptized "Juan Bautista Cooper" at Mission San Juan Bautista on June 24, 1833 (SJB Baptism 04052).
* Not to be confused with John Roger Cooper, who was born in the United States and arrived in Alta California aboard the Rover in 1823. He was baptized "Juan Bautista Cooper" at the Monterey Presidio Chapel on April 14, 1827 (SC Baptism 03485).
