Martha Jane Stewart was married twice. Her first husband was James McGranahan, by whom she had two children:

- Isabelle Jane (McGranahan) Stewart (1853-1957) and
- Mary Emma (McGranahan) Kenley (1859-1947)

- James H. McFarland (1868-1911)
- George L. McFarland (1870-1910), and
- Lucinda V. (McFarland) Ambrose (1870-1973)
