Methodist Pastor, Native of Murrayville, Succumbs Following Stroke
Versailles-- Rev. J. M. Beadles, pastor of the Methodist church here, and a native of Murrayville, died at 2 o'clock Sunday (February 27, 1938) afternoon. He was stricken with paralysis Saturday evening and remained in an unconscious condition several hours before his death.
Rev. Mr. Beadles became pastor of the Versailles church in September, 1934. He has been in the Methodist ministry for forty years, and has held pastorates in Little Rock, Ark., Grand Forks, Neb., and many other points. He was for a time in the evangelistic service, and was also well known as a chautauqua lecturer.
Rev. Beadles was born in Murrayville, June 22, 1860, the son of Thomas G. and Ellnora Penton Beadles. He left Murrayville about 50 years ago to enter the evangelistic field, and spent about 25 years in the Methodist evangelistic field in the southern and western portions of the United States. He made his home in California and Kansas for a number of years, and three and half years ago accepted the pastorate of the Versailles M. E. Church.
He was married Dec. 23, 1899, to Miss Nanna Berry, who preceded him in death in December, 1934. He is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Ethel Wright of Jacksonville, and Mrs. Mary Tilden, of Galesburg, and one brother, W. O. Beadles of Murrayville.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Murrayville M. E. Church in charge of the Rev. Blood of Decatur, assisted by the Rev. Raye Ragan, of Jacksonville, Rev. J. A. Biddle, and Rev. C. R. Cox. Burial will be in the Murrayville cemetery.
The remains are at the J. E. Thompson Funeral Home and will be taken to the home of a brother, Oliver Beadles, Tuesday at 9 a.m.
