Fred Thomas Rood, 95, of Russellville, died Saturday, September 24, 2011, at Saint Mary's Regional Medical Center. He was born June 3, 1916, in Pope County, Arkansas, to Pleasant Thomas and Beulah Brown Rood. He was a plumber until the age of 83, was a member of Gideon's International and the Bethel Assembly of God. He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Myrtle Lorene Farmer Rood, and four brothers.

Survivors include his wife, Violet N. Rood; two sons and daughters-in-law, Freddie and June Rood of Russellville, and Kenny and Marsha Rood of Benton; five daughters and three sons-in-law, Lillian Justice of Russellville, Mary Philpot of Dover, Barbara and James Freeman of Russellville, Sharon and John Holston of Orange Park, Florida, and Joyce and Allen Crawford of Atkins; sixteen grandchildren, twenty-six great-grandchildren and fifteen great-great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, September 27, 2011, at the Shinn Chapel, officiated by the Rev. Rick Balentine and the Rev. Bud Avants. Burial will be in Pisgah Cemetery at Pottsville, by Shinn Funeral Service of Russellville.

Active pallbearers will be Thomas Freeman, Terry Freeman, Eddie Rood, Jimmy Philpot, Mike Justice and Preston Rood.

The family will receive friends on Monday evening, from 5 to 6 p.m., at the funeral home.
