Ernest A. Beebe, 86, Manito's mayor from 1957 to 1961, died at 3:15 Thursday, September 22, 1988 at the Hopedale Medical Complex. He lived at 207 N. Harrison Street, Manito, IL.
He was born September 12, 1902, in Manito to Alanzo and Lillie Krammer Beebe. He married Hazel Tackman July 9, 1931, in Manito, and she survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Greta Alexander Paice of Delavan and Mrs. Roberta "Bobbie" Marquardt Johnson of Petersburg; nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; one brother, Roland of Manito; and one sister, Mrs. Mary Prentice of Topeka.
Five brothers and three sisters preceded him in death.
He served in the National Guard from 1929-33 and farmed in the Manito area until retiring in 1972. He was a former Village Board trustee, former member of Mason County Board of Review and Forman Improvement Association and a former member of Manito-Forest City Optimist Club.
He was a member of Manito United Methodist Church, Mason County Farm Bureau, Manito Lodge 476, AF & AM; Manito Area Chamber of Commerce and a charter member of Manito Historical Society.
Graveside services were held at 10 a.m. Saturday in Meadow Lawn Cemetery. The Rev. Floyd Blackard officiated. Maas Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
