VETERAN BANK OFFICIAL DIES AT CLIFTON HILL
Funeral of E. E. Hurt To Be Held There Monday Afternoon
CLIFTON HILL---E. E. Hurt, 77, banker for more than 50 years, died at 2:30 o'clock this morning at his home in Clifton Hill after an illness of about nine months.
Mr. Hurt is survived by his wife, the former Miss Mabel Snoddy of Armstrong; a daughter, Mrs. Ambrose Rucker, Kansas City; four grand children; and a sister, Mrs. Joe Richeson, Clifton Hill.
A son of Mr. and Mrs. Nathan Hurt, pioneer residents near Clifton Hill, Mr. Hurt became connected with the banking business 54 years ago, starting with what was then known as the Hammett Bank in Huntsville. He went from there to Clifton Hill Banking Co., which was later to be recognized as the Farmers Savings Bank with Mr. Hurt as president. He remained in that capacity.
Mr. Hurt was a member of the Masonic Lodge and was its treasurer and a member of the Clifton Hill Cemetery Association. He has served as treasurer and a member of the board of stewards of the Clifton Hill Methodist Church since 1911 and was one of the oldest members of the church in number of years.
Funeral Monday
The body will be taken late this afternoon from the Patton Funeral Home in Huntsville to the Hurt home in Clifton Hill. Funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock. Monday afternoon in the Methodist Church in Clifton by the Rev. Jesse Layton of Centralia, former pastor of the Clifton Hill Church, assisted by the present pastor, the Rev. James Hyndrich. Burial will be in the Clifton Hill cemetery. The body will lie in state at the Clifton Hill Methodist Church from 1 o'clock Monday afternoon until the funeral hour.
