Mrs. Viola "Snook" Moore Batia, 89, of D'Iberville, MS died Monday, November 10, 2003, in Biloxi. Mrs. Batia was a native of Jackson County and a former resident of New Orleans, LA. She had been a longtime resident of the coast.

She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in D'Iberville where she was a member of the bible study group. She was a member of the Biloxi and D'Iberville Senior Citizens. Mrs. Batia was selected as "Mother of the Year" in 2000 by the Sun Herald and she was an accomplished seamstress and artist. She was currently pursuing a GED and was featured on WLOX TV for that accomplishment. She traveled extensively and could accomplish anything she set her mind to.

Mrs. Batia was preceded in death by her husband, Carroll L. Batia, Sr., a son, Carroll L. Batia, Jr., her brother, Thomas "Sonny" Moore and a sister, Joan Moore Langlinais.

Survivors include two daughters, Joan Ryan and her husband, Glenn, of Ocean Springs and Myra Peresich and her husband, Gene, III, of Huntsville, AL; one son, Arlin G. Batia and his wife, Jackie, of Jonesboro, GA and a daughter in law, Diane Batia of D'Iberville; four sisters, Mary "Sis" Landry and Sister Mary Laboure Moore of New Orleans,LA, Dorothy Grant of Corpus Christi, Texas and Catherine Willhoft of Arabi, LA;

thirteen grandchildren, Glenn, Jr., Jeff, Dean and Steve Ryan, Carroll, III, Paul and Sharon Batia, Melanie Wagner, Adam Peresich, Rebekah Hollingshead, Rick, Mark and Lyn Batia and 17 great grandchildren. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Wednesday, November 12, 2003, from 6 to 9 p.m. with Rosary at 7 p.m. at the Howard Avenue Chapel of Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Homes in Biloxi. An 11 a.m. Mass will be held Thursday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church were friends may visit one hour before service time. Burial will be in Swetman Cemetery.
