Obituary, The Columbia Daily Tribune, June 7, 2005:

Charles P. "Cab" Atkins, 88, a lifelong resident of Centralia, died Sunday, June 5, 2005, at Boone Hospital Center.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 8, at First Christian Church in Centralia with the Rev. Fred Dorisse, pastor of First Christian Church, officiating. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Fenton Funeral Chapel. Burial will be at Glendale Memorial Gardens in Centralia.

He was born Sept. 7, 1916, in Centralia, the son of Charles E. and Mayme Ravenscraft Atkins.

On Feb. 11, 1944, he was married in Salisbury to Dorothy Tudor. She preceded him in death May 4, 1984.

He later married Natwadee Ali on June 15, 1987, in Thailand, and she survives.

A graduate of Centralia High School, he attended the University of Missouri-Columbia for one year, pursuing an engineering degree.

He took his military pilot training during World War II and served in the south Pacific.

An employee of the A.B. Chance Co. in Centralia, he was in marketing for many years, and at the time of retirement, he had the distribution responsibilities.

Mr. Atkins was a member of First Christian Church, American Legion Post No. 113 and VFW Post No. 6276 and served on the United Way committee, all in Centralia. He was a past president of the Centralia Rotary Club an served as District 605 governor. He had served as president of Great Rivers Council Boy Scouts of America. His Masonic membership was at Centralia Lodge No. 59, A.F.&A.M. and Shriner's membership with Moolah Temple in St. Louis.

Other survivors include a sister, Mary Frances Rice of Centralia, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, LeRoy Atkins, Benjamin Atkins and Robert Atkins; and three sisters, Pearl Foster, Beulah Walker and LaVerne Bush.

Honorary pallbearers will be William H. Reinhardt, Arthur Allen, Paul Sturgeon, James Everhart, James Mullen, Claude Pecquet, Eugene Shores and Ronald Grove.

Pallbearers will be Gary Bartee, Jim Lee, Charles Mitts, Chester Boren, Lynn Richman and Robert E. Jennings.

The family suggests memorials to the Centralia Public Library.
