note on log house: center log portion, prob where Peter was born, believe built after Theobold obtained the land abt 1834; the left stone addition added next, the right end/kitchen, by later owners, circa 1940-50s. Now (early 2000s) remodeled into a very modern home, the original footprint remains, w/additions. As much of the original building and materials as possible were retained, however over 250 years of weather, aging & insect, had taken it's toll. Ex: it was hoped the original logs could be split and used as "siding". When studied for this purpose, insects w/age, had done extensive damage, making them unusable.
The owning family have been extremely generous, allowing the MECHLING Historical Assn Reunion gathering. twice, to visit our "MECHLING Homestead"-- wandering over the farm from house interior to stream-side mill remains.
Peter's schooling was in German, mostly of writing & simple arithmetic -- skills to use in daily life & dealings. He operated grist & saw mills in Salsbury twp, where his first two dtrs were bp in Jerusalem Ch. He was appointed executor of his father's estate, but died just before, or after, his father, who died in Apr 1765.
... dying about age 28, prob in Salisbury twp, Northampton Co PA. A memorial stone was placed at Zions Evan Luth Ch Cem, summer of 2010 by the MECHLING Historical Assn.
