George Leslie Gray died 17 November at Surprise, Arizona at the age of 85. He was born November 20, 1920, on a farm near McFall, Missouri, the oldest son of George Leslie Gray II and Gertrude Gray (nee Bleish). He graduated from McFall High School, and then attended the University of Missouri for one year, followed by one year in a business college in Kansas City, MO. He was employed by the Kansas City Star in November, 1940, and in February, 1942, joined the U. S. Coast Guard where he served until honorably discharged on December 7, 1945. Nineteen months of this service were with an amphibious landing craft flotilla operating in the Mediterranean Sea and at Normandy Beaches, where he participated in the D-Day invasion. During his service in the Coast Guard, George met and married Ann Elizabeth Folkman (nee Audry Ellen Converse) on April 21, 1945. Upon return from service, he worked nine months for the Kansas City Star, then accepted employment in October, 1946 with the sales office of Ford Motor Co. in Kansas City, MO. He worked in various sales capacities until retirement in January, 1979. He and Ann moved to Cave Creek, Arizona, where he resided until Ann's death, after which he relocated to Sun City West, and in 1996, married Margaret Ellis, who survived him. He is also survived by his three sons, David and James, both of Duck River, TN, and Richard of Kansas City, MO; two brothers, Donald of Liberty, MO, and Richard of Independence, MO, six grandchildren, three great grandchildren, two step children, three step grandchildren, and seven step great grandchildren. Graveside services will be held 14 December at Glenridge Cemetery, Liberty, MO. Burial arrangements are being handled by Park Lawn Funeral Homes, Liberty, MO. The family requests no flowers.
