Funeral services for Mildred I. Bass, 92, of Jackson, Mississippi, were held at 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 2, 1996 at Haggard Chapel. Revs. Sam Stafford and Tim Edwards officiated. Burial was held in Oakwood Cemetery. Arrangements were by G.E. Haggard and Son Funeral Home.
Mrs. Bass was born Oct. 17, 1903 in Gonzales County, the daughter of Z.M. and Margaret Thames Baker. She married C. Leon Bass on Nov. 3, 1928 in Gonzales County. The Bass family opened a dry goods store in Jefferson in 1941 after Perkins Brother closed. She was a strong force in the operation of this business and later the L & M Store. A member for many years of the First United Methodist Church, Jefferson, she served in various offices. She concluded 16 years as secretary of the church in 1982 and was a member of the Carrie Moseley Bible Class and was past Worthy Matron of the Jefferson Chapter Order of Eastern Star. In 1982, she moved to Jackson, Mississippi and lived at Madonna Manor Home until two months prior to her death. She was a member of the Alta Woods United Methodist Church, Jackson, Mississippi.
Mrs. Bass died Wednesday, July 30, in Durant, Holmes County, Mississippi.
Mrs. Bass was preceded in death by her husband on April 2, 1961; three brothers and two sisters. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Robert Hanson of Kosciusko, Mississippi; step-son and step daughter-in-law, Milton K. and Imogene Bass of Jefferson; step-daughter, Constance Parker of Marshall; five granchildren, Paula Youngblood of Jefferson; Kim Bass of Belton; Glen Hanson of Houston; Kay Cox of Clinton, Mississippi; Marilyn Jadrosoch of Ft. Worth; five great grandchildren, Regena Nelson; Darrell and Michael Youngblood of Jefferson; Ben Pendarvis of Clinton, Ms.; Carolyn Bass of Belton; five great, great grandchildren, Bryan, Tyler, Nichole and Hunter Nelson, and Austin Youngblood, all of Jefferson.

' Mrs. Bass was a longtime member of First United Methodist Church in Jefferson, where she Served in various offices, including a 16-year tenure as church secretary. She also was a member of the Carrie Moseley Bible Class and was past worthy matron of the Order of Eastern Star, Jefferson Chapter.
While living in Jackson, she was a member of Alta Woods United Methodist Church. Her husband preceded her in death April 2,1961. Three brothers and two sisters also preceded her in death.
Survivors include daughter, Barbara Hanson of Kosciusko, Miss.; stepson, Milton Bass of Jefferson; stepdaughter, Constance Parker of Marshall, five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.

DURANT Mildred Bass. 92, a former merchant and church secretary, died of lung failure Tuesday at the University Hospital.
Services are 2 p.m. Friday at Haggard Funeral Home in Jefferson, Texas, with burial in Oakwood Cemetery in Jefferson.
Mrs. Bass was a Gonzales, Texas, native. She was the widow of Leon Bass. She was a former resident of Madonna Manor in Jackson. She was a member of Arta Woods United Methodist Church in Jackson.
Survivors include: daughter, Barbara Hanson of Sallis; stepson, Milton Bass of Jefferson; four grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
