Françoise was the daughter of (Jean-) Michel Clerc (1796-ca.1870) and the former Mademoiselle (Miss) Marie Françoise Curdy (1812-1900).
Her great-grandfather, Hyacinthe Curdy (1758-1800), was an administrative agent for the French during the Napoleonic era.
Françoise married Frédéric Curdy in 1855, and became the mother of 12 children.
