FAYARD, CALVIN CLIFFORD SR.

Springfield - Calvin Clifford Fayard Sr., 95, died Saturday, March 23, 2002, of respiratory complications. A native of Springfield, he was a produce inspector for the U.S. Department of Agriculture and later owned and operated a retail business in Springfield. He served as the town marshal and was later elected to the Town Council and the Livingston Parish School Board where he served as
president of the board. He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Navy and was a member of the American Legion. He was an active and contributing member of the Livingston Parish American Revolution Bicentennial Committee and helped organize the Edward Livingston Historical Association. He worked on numerous community projects including the Springfield Heritage Festival and parade, Cleanest City competition and the Springfield Fire Department. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Katherine Abels Fayard; one son, Calvin C. Fayard Jr. of Denham Springs; a brother, Simpson A. Fayard of Springfield; and three grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father, Thaddeus Richard "Dick" Fayard; and his mother, Jessie Agnes Dow; two brothers, Homer St. Elmo Fayard and Louis Wilson Fayard; and five sisters, Edna Elizabeth McKigney, Mary Roberts St. Germaine, Helene Hortense Behrman, Mable Vernon Fayard and Velma Agnes St. Germain. Visitation will be Monday at the Springfield First United Methodist Church from 9:30 a.m. until the funeral at 11:30. The Rev. E.A. Guy and the Rev. Bill Foster will conduct the service, and burial will be at the Springfield Cemetery. Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home, Hammond, is in charge.
