Walter Wesley "Boisie" Coughran Jr.

In remembrance of Walter Wesley "Boisie" Coughran Jr., 68, the only son of Walter and Lucile Coughran. Boisie was born in Prescott, Ariz., and was from one of Prescott's original pioneer families, with roots that date back to the civil war.

In 1960, he graduated from Prescott High, where he excelled in baseball. He went on to attend college at the University of Arizona and lived many years in Phoenix before returning to the family ranch in Skull Valley, Ariz.

Boisie played many years of competitive fastpitch softball, competing for the World Tournament almost every year in the '70s, traveling all over the U.S. and Canada. He held the highest tournament batting average record since 1978 before it was broken recently.

Boisie was very fond of all animals, and you could tell animals adored him too. Recently, Boisie moved to the town of Wilhoit, Ariz., where he knew a lot of folks and was quick to make many new friends.

Boisie will be deeply missed by his surviving family, mother Lucile Morse, daughter Tina Landess Petrich, and son Jeffrey Coughran. Boisie will be joining his beloved sister Patricia Coughran, who preceded him in death. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 24, at the Skull Valley cemetery.
