Moroni Rees, 83 years old, pioneer of Utah and Idaho, passed away in Salt Lake City, Utah on Friday, October 2, 1931 at his residence.

He was born on October 20, 1848 in Victoria, South Wales to David Rees and Mary Ann Phillips. He came to America in 1865, settling in Danville, Illinois. Two years later he moved to Utah and made his home in Provo, where he married Emily Vaughan.

He married Emily Vaughan in Salt Lake City, Utah on June 28, 1869.

In 1871 They moved to Malad Valley, Idaho, where they settled on what is known as Cherry Creek. While a resident there, he assisted in the construction of canals, schools and churches in Malad Valley, and also engaged in farming.

Following his retirement, he made his home in Ogden, Utah, where he lived until the death of his wife in 1919. He had since lived in salt Lake City, Utah.

He is survived by three daughters and six sons: George A. Rees of Salt Lake City, Utah; Emily (Joseph) Thomas, Moroni V. Rees, Philip M. Rees, and Gomer V. Rees, all of Malad, Idaho; Gwennie (John) Miller of Ogden, Utah; Mary (Daniel) Thomas of Provo, Utah; David J. Rees of Upalco, Idaho; and Dr. Thomas R. Rees of Ironwood, Michigan; 45 grandchildren, and 33 great-grandchildren.
