Mary Laird, daughter of Joseph W. and Katherine Robertson Anderson, was born April 10, 1870, at McCullis Mills, Pa. She died at Clarinda, Iowa, Nov 10, 1954, at the age of 81 years and seven months.

The family came to Norwich, Page county, Iowa, in 1875. There she grew to womanhood as one of a family of 11 children, and was married to Daniel B. Hoffman, Feb 24, 1892. To this union was born one son, Roy A.

Mr and Mrs Hoffman began married life as farmers and moved to Clarinda in 1903.

After Mr Hoffman's death in 1927, Mrs Hoffman continued to live in Clarinda. On April 9, 1944, she broke her hip and was confined to the Municipal hospital in Clarinda for more than three years. She went to live in the Odd Fellows home at Mason City, Iowa in July 1949. Last February she returned to live in Clarinda.

She was an active member of the Presbyterian church before her accident.

Mrs Hoffman was preceded in death by her husband, five sisters and three brothers. Surviving are her son Roy, his wife Psyche, their two sons Robert of Long Beach, Calif, and James of Springfield, Mass, and four great grandchildren, also her brother, Bert Anderson of Fresno, Calif, and her sister, Mrs Belle Hutt of Idaho Falls, Idaho, and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were conducted from the Walker Funeral Home at 3:30 pm Friday, Nov 12, 1954, with the Rev D.C. Davis in charge. Music was by Aletha Htchings, who played soft organ music during the entire service. Casketbearers who carried her to her final resting place in the Clarinda cemetery were Harry Kling, Glenn Davison, W.D. Anderson, Kermit Hultgren, Wilbur Kite and Joe Anderson.
