"WURTLAND MAN IS FOUND DEAD THIS MORNING
-Ewing Chinn, 60, Passed Away During Night
Wurtland (KY) - Ewing Chinn, 60, lifelong resident of this community was found dead in bed at his home here this morning.
Apparently in good health, his death came as a shock to his many friends and acquaintances throughout the county.
He had retired at the usual hour Tuesday night and when members of his family went to his room to summon him for breakfast they found that he had died during the night.
Mr. Chinn was born at Wurtland October 3, 1875, the son of John Hamon and Mary Wurts Chinn.
He was united in marriage to Mollie Birch and to this union were born eight children, six of whom survive the aged father.
In his young manhood he was concerted to the faith of the Methodist Church. He attended services regularly and for many years served as superintendent of the Sunday school here. Recently he was forced to relinquish this position due to ill health.
Mr. Chinn was for a number of years an employee of the Chesapeake and Ohio Railroad and he was in the service of the company until several years ago when he retired from active duty after his health started failing.
His wife and two daughters Ester and Ethel preceded him in death.
Surviving are the following children: George of Springfield, Ohio; Mrs. Agnes Lawhorn and Mrs. Mildred Fisher of Raceland; Mrs. Lena Meyers{sic} and Doyle of Wurtland and Rowland of Trevecca College, Nashville, Tenn.
Two brothers, Wurts Chinn of Wurtland, Earl Chinn of Ironton, and three sisters, Mrs. Bird Cochran; Mrs. Mary Cochran and Miss Rose Chinn of Wurtland survive. Eight grandchildren and a host of other relatives also survive.
The funeral services will be conducted Friday at the Union Church with burial in Rice cemetery under the direction of J.S. Carman."

"FUNERAL SERVICES HELD THIS MORNING
Wurtland - The funeral services for Ewing Chinn, 60, widely known Greenup county man, were conducted here this morning at ten o'clock at the Union Church. The burial was made in the Rice Cemetery under the direction of J.S. Carman, Russell funeral director."
--------------------------

NOTE: The "Rice Cemetery" is almost impossible to find now (July, 2001) as it has no tombstones visible or are now overgrown. I was led there in July 2001 and the directions are: When at the very northern end of Wurtland, Kentucky, Take Rt. 23 south towards Russell, Kentucky. Keep a sharp lookout on the right side for Darius Lane (used to be Crum Road). Slow down immediately as the next right turn is not marked and is more a dirt driveway than a street. If you pass Botany Lane you have gone too far. Travel up the steep roadway BETWEEN Darius Lane and Botany Lane and when you see the first cut-off on your RIGHT side, look down it and you will see a large domed water tower, about 25' x 30' {painted blue in July, 2001}. Make a right turn towards the water tower. The cemetery is said to be back to the RIGHT of the water tower.
Be careful not to walk too far on the RIGHT of the tower as a cliff is further out in the vegetation.
