Former Guide Rock resident Lavaile "Rosy" Gleason, 69, of Holdrege died Friday, March 26, 1999, in Gothenburg. Services are 10 a.m. Tuesday at First United Methodist Church in Holdrege with the Rev Melva Tranmer officiating. Graveside services are 2 p.m. at Guide Rock Cemetery at Guide Rock. Visitation is until 9 p.m. today at Nelson-Harris Funeral Home in Holdrege.
Mr Gleason was born Jan 6, 1930 to Milton and Cleta (Sabin) Gleason in Guide Rock. He graduated from Guide Rock High School in 1948. He received a teacher's certificate from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. On June 10, 1949, he married Shirley Sholtz in Red Cloud. He taught school near Guide Rock for several years. He then owned and operated Gleason's Meats in Holdrege for more than 30 years.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Holdrege, Jacin Lodge No. 146 A.F. & A.M. and Nebraska Shriners. He was a little league coach, president of Baseball Inc., scoutmaster for Boy Scout Troop No 216 and a member of the Phelps County Historical Society.
Survivors are one son Michael of Lincoln; one daughter, Regi Lane of Gothenburg; his mother of St Paul; three brother, Lyle of Concordia, Kan., Jack of Red Bluff, Calif., and Bob of Leigh; and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father.
Memorials may be give to Central Plains Hospice in Cozad or Phelps County Historical society.
