Max Bunn, 97, of Winona died Saturday, May 8, 2010, at Callista Court, where he resided the past two years.

Max was born Jan. 30, 1913, in Baker, Mont., to Frank and Alice (Lowe) Bunn, and the family later moved to the Winona area.

Max entered the Army in 1942 and served in the South Pacific.

After the war, he returned to continue his work at Merchants National Bank.

There, Max met the bank president's secretary, Gladys Thayer, and they were married on May 11, 1963.

He was employed at Merchants Bank for 42 years, retiring as vice president in 1978.

Max was a member of Central United Methodist Church, where he held various positions.

Max was involved with the Kiwanis Service Club and the Veterans of Foreign Wars for many years, and was also an honorary American Legion member.

He enjoyed playing golf, reading and traveling.

Max is survived by his wife, Gladys, of Winona; a twin sister Maxine Hiltner, North Hollywood, Calif.; sister-in-law Virginia (Clayton) Ruggles, Frontenac, Minn.; brother-in-law Larry Thayer, Anaheim Calif.; sister-in-law Katherine Thayer, Temple Hills, Md.; cousins; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Genevieve and Marjorie.

Funeral services to remember Max will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Norton Chapel, Central United Methodist Church, with the Rev. David McBride officiating.

Interment will be at Woodlawn Cemetery
