Pauline (Caton) Shields was born near Mound City, Missouri on November 23, 1913. She was one of eight children born to Grant Howell and Martha Naomi (Erwin) Caton. Pauline graduated from Mound City High School in 1932.

On November 23, 1940 she married Lester W. Shields in Marysville, Kansas. They became parents of one daughter, Karen.

Lester and Pauline bought the farm next to his parents, Elmer and Lillian Shields, and worked side-by-side for the next 40+ years raising row crops and animals. Pauline had also worked at Carter's Store in Mound City and also the local telephone company. She was an active member of the Maitland Methodist Church, Order of Eastern Star and PEO.

They sold their Maitland home in 2003 and lived with Karen and Doug in Omaha. Pauline and Lester celebrated 65 years of marriage before he passed away in 2006. Pauline passed away on Sunday, September 18th at the Tiffany Heights Care Center in Mound City at the age of 97.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; two infant brothers; brothers Frank and Carroll Caton; and sisters Ethel Caton, Cecil Caton and Elsie Jones.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Doug Rasmussen, Omaha, Nebraska; grandsons Robert Rasmussen, Omaha and Kirk and his wife JoAnn Rasmussen of Arvada, Colorado; great granddaughter, Claire Rasmussen; sisters-in-law, Louise Caton, Bigelow, Missouri, Doris Rudicel, Omaha, Nebraska and Eileen Wyman, Maitland, Missouri; nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Services will be held on Saturday, September 24, 2011 at the United Methodist Church in Maitland. Open visitation will be held on Friday evening. Burial will be at the Maitland Cemetery.
