He was born in Houghton, Michigan, the son of John and Katherine (Ziegler) Schenck. His father was born in Germany; his mother was born in Switzerland. George Schenck married Mary Gertrude Rumping on August 29, 1900 in Helena, Lewis and Clark County, Montana. George and Mary had five children, Evelyn Kate, Georgiana Frances, Irene Mary, Christopher, and Valentine Dora. He died from tuberculosis in Marysville. He was a miner.

"Death Comes to Marysville Man. George Schenck, aged 38, died Sunday at Marysville after an illness of more than two years. The deceased was a well-known mining man of that district and was an employee of the Barnes-King company. He is survived by his widow and five children living at Marysville and by his father, mother and other relatives living at Neihart. The funeral will be held at Marysville." Helena Independent, 11/2/1915.
