Enlisted on July 24, 1943 Atlanta Georgia in the Navy. Served during World War II on the ship Sangay. Herbert married Francis Quinlain in 1954. After her death in 1974 he married Leila Mae Jenkins. He never had children.

Survived by wife, Mae Canup, Stock-bridge; sisters, Martha Burney, Austell, Ludie Jenkins of Porterdale and Mr. and Mrs. Alvin and Winnie Jenkins of McDonough, nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 22, 12:30, Ward's Glon-wood Chapel. Rev. Reed Benson officiating. Interment Westview Cemetery. Family will receive friends Tuesday, 7 to 9 p.m. Horis A Ward Inc.. Candler Rd. 7
