Mrs. Mildred E. Higbee, 73, of 464 Lafayette died Saturday following an extended illness.

Born in Bushnell township, Montcalm county, May 18, 1898, she was the daughter of Charles and Alceba North.

She attended the Fleisher school, graduated from Palo high school and received her degree from Central Michigan Normal at Mt. Pleasant. She taught at Palo, West Branch, Boyne Falls, and Ionia junior high schools.

July 19, 1921 she was married to J. H. Higbee in the Palo Baptist church. They made their home at the present address since 1923. She was a member of First Presbyterian church and until ill health curtailed her activities she was active in the Ionia Garden and extension groups of Ionia county.

Surviving are her husband, J. H. Higbee; son, Jack of Ionia, and daughter, Mrs. Earl Nelson of Ionia; three grandchildren; brother, Ray North of Bushnell township.

Funeral services were Monday at 3:30 p.m. at Leddick funeral home. Rev. Donald R. Fry of LeValley United Methodist church officiated and interment was at Balcom cemetery.

Bearers were Allan M. Williams, Ross Horwood, Charles Higbee, Frank Minier, Lyle Dickerson and Harold Dickerson.
