Edna Claire Hatley, 94, passed away Sept. 14, 2011. She was born July 22, 1917, in Joplin, Mo., to Charles Keller and Bertha Mahoney Keller.

Edna Claire graduated from Joplin High School in 1935. She attended continuing education classes at KUKC, American Institute of Banking, Chicago, Ill., and MSSC, Joplin.

She was employed in the accounting department of Empire District Electric Co., Special Loan Department at Harris Trust and Savings Bank, Chicago, executive assistant at Sam's Department Stores, Inc., Raytown, Mo., and retired in October of 1986. She also worked as a nurse's aid at both hospitals in Joplin.

Edna Claire married William W. Hatley at Camp Roberts, Pasa Robles, Calif. Oct. 10, 1942. He preceded her in death in 1990. A son, William Keller Hatley, passed away in infancy.

There are no immediate survivors. For the last four years, she was attended to by her long time friend and guardian, Jackie Ranum.

Mr. and Mrs. Hatley lived in Raytown, Mo. for 27 years. They moved back to Joplin in July 1987.

Edna Claire was a member of the First Community Church, Joplin, she served on the church board, she was past president of the Women's Alliance, and a member of the Forum Class. She was a member of Visions Unlimited and RSVP at MSSC. She volunteered at Area Agency on Aging, Freeman Hospital Auxiliary where she served as treasurer and volunteered at MSSC K57DR. She served one term as board member of Southwest Missouri Arthritis Association. Edna Claire was a member of the former Joplin Civic Symphony Orchestra and the former Raytown Civic Symphony Orchestra.

Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary. Graveside services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Osborne Memorial Cemetery with Rev. Wm. Brock Watson officiating.
