From The History of Lake County, IL:

A manufacturer of carriages, wagons, and sleighs and was one of the leading businessmen in the city of Waukegan. He was born in Libertyille Township on January 22, 1844 and is the son of Owen and Margaret (Conners) Dady, both of whom were born in County Kerry, Ireland. In early life they came to the United States locating in Massachusetts, where their marriage was celebrated. In the year 1838 they emigrated to Lake County, Illinois and about 1841 or 1842 they settled in Libertyville Township where both of Jeremiah's parents died at a comparatively early age, his mother was but thirty-three years old and his father was in his thirty-ninth year.

Both his parents were members of the Catholic Church. They left five children at the time of their deaths: Robert is an extensive farmer of Waukegan Township; James is engaged in blacksmithing in Gurnee, this county; Jeremiah R. is the next younger; Mary is the wife of John Powers, a resident of North Bend, Neb.; and Owen F. is a blacksmith in Brule County, Neb.

Jeremiah was left an orphan when about ten years old. He spent some five years with Michael Connely of Benton Township and then worked as a farm hand for wages until eighteen years of age when he began to learn the trade of a wood workman in the carriage factory owned by his brother Robert. In 1865, he and his brother James purchased the factory and after two years James sold his share to Robert. The brothers continued the business until 1870, since which time Jeremiah R. has been sole proprietor.

He was married four times. In 1866 he married Mary Shea, who enjoyed a short married life of only five months. His second marriage was in 1868 with Sarah Crawford who lived only five weeks. Two years later he married Margaret Mullery and she survived eleven years. His fourth wife was Mary Doyle. Their marriage was October 24, 1883, and they had four children, two sons and two daughters: Arthur O., Margaret M., Mary D. and Vincent J.
