Arthur Andrew, son of Herman and Anna Schultz Ahrendsen, was born December 6, 1915, on his parent's farm five miles south of Manning, Iowa. Art was baptized in 1916, and confirmed in 1930, both at Trinity Lutheran Church near Audubon. Art attended country school north of his home for six years and parochial school at Trinity Lutheran for two years before returning to country school and graduating from the eighth grade. Art then helped his parent's farm, and worked for neighboring farmers.

In 1940, Art’s parents moved into Manning. Art stayed on the farm along with his brother Lorenz and his wife. Art and Lorenz farmed together until 1959, when Art purchased the neighboring farm and moved there. He spent his winter months in town with his sister Alta, eventually moving in with her full time while continuing to farm. After Alta’s death in 1992, Art once again lived alone, and on June 18, 1994, Art’s Parkinson’s Disease caused him to enter the Manning Plaza Nursing Home.

Art was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Manning. He enjoyed bowling, dancing, playing cards, and fishing.

On Sunday, August 22, 1999, Art died at the Manning Plaza Nursing Home, reaching the age of 83 years, 8 months and 14 days.

Besides his parents, Art is preceded in death by his brother Lorenz Ahrendsen and his sister Alta Ahrendsen.
